If Dr. Busy were to complain to me that, “every time I have to step away for just a few
minutes that stupid computer logs me off and I have to log back in. It slows me down” I would
explain to him that this is programmed to happen for not only the patient’s safety, but for our
own safety as well. Automatic logoff locks your device screen or logs you off the network or
system after a period of inactivity. This is beneficial in the medical field because you never know
what could happen if you turn your back for a few seconds. It is important to make sure you
either lock your computer or log off because you could have patients reading into other patient’s
charts or other staff members documenting under your log-in.
