Jim Daley CAS 100A sec. 002 m. b. kane 2/12/07 Topic: Change in NHL rules Specific Goal: to inform the audience about the change in the NHL’s rules Introduction I. Attention getter. II. My topic is the rule changes the NHL made over this off season. III. I chose this topic because I play hockey and some of these rules affect the rules in college hockey. IV. My three main points are the shootout, extended blue line, and goalie restricted area. Thesis Statement: The shootout, extended blue lines, and the goalie restricted area has made the game faster and more exciting. Body I. This past year the overtime format has been changed for tie games. A. Instead of a single 5 minute overtime there now are a five minute overtime and a shootout. B. The shootout has provided for a more exciting finish to tie games. II. There is now more room in the offensive zone because they have extended the blue lines. A. There is now more scoring in the NHL this year. B. There is more scoring because teams spend more time in the offensive zone.
