When the 1600s came to an end, France witnessed a change towards the absolute monarchy. As Louis XIV began to gain power, he tried to weaken the general assembly. England had also witnessed change, but their government had changed to move away from the absolute monarchy and increase the power of the parliament. The idea of the political system of absolutism is when the monarch has complete control over his or her kingdom with no opposition. The use of absolutism in England was first observed with James I and Charles I, but, unfortunately, the system did not succeed. However, in France, Louis XIV had implemented an extreme monarchy which ended up being prosperous. Absolutism did not prosper in England, but it did in France due to various social, economic and political factors.
