I)Looking Back and Looking Around:The Long History of Pastoral Peoples 1. Livestock development was very prominent around 4000 BCE. the pastoral societies developed in deserts arctic regions and grasslands but not in the americas. A)The World of Pastoral Societies 1. Pastoral societies were differentiated based off of their many different features. Slaves were also a big part of pastoral peoples lifestyle. 2. Pastoral people were very fond of women and agriculture. Their interest and roles in family and labor were acknowledged. 3. Many people were not in agreeance with the thought of women having such a supreme role in the pastoral lifestyle. 4. Movement of the pastoral people was very fascinating. Their lifestyle was based off mainly off of the way they moved and how they migrated. 5. Though they were different they were linked together well through their neighbors. Division was created between states and tribes due to the agricultural supremacy among states. 6. Pastoral people were in need of a certain wealth. And individuals with authority such as chinggis khan created relationships that were useful for evolving powerful states. 7. Military was a major part of defense due to the low population of the many pastoral states. Eurasian pastoral life was very focused on the development of military skills at an early age. 8. Pastoral soldiers interacted with their neighbors allowing various cultures and religions to come into the culture. 9. Asian steppes were introduced to horseback riding in 1000 BCE.
