Db2 reply 2 subs 601 Hello Leslie, I enjoyed reading your post. As you mentioned, it is very important to address the root or underlying cause of the individual’s addiction (Inaba & Cohen, 2014). You made a good point. It is very important to teach an individual who is suffering from addiction to live without this drug. So many things need to change in an addict’s life. Methadone treatment does have its pros. For instance, it reduces the crimes associated with attaining illegal drugs, helps slow the transmission of HIV, and slows down death rates of heroin (Modesto-Lowe, Brooks, & Petry, 2010), I can understand using drugs like methadone in the beginning while a person is in detox to help them get through withdrawals, but to simply send them to a methadone clinic and give them a “less” addictive “safer” drug is not the answer. I feel that this method is keeping the addiction alive and well in these patients. According to Modesto-Lowe, Brooks, & Petry (2010),
