Patent Hw A patent refers to the intellectual property right to an inventor. This is given out by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A patent stops other people from making, using, or selling the invention that a person has claimed. The three types of patents are utility, design and plant. A new patent generally lasts for 20 years from the date which the application is processed and accepted. The main issue with this system is that the patents are only valid within the United States and its territories. This means that countries can steal ideas and make profit off them.
