4-1 Discussion Postretirement Benefits Postretirement benefits (OPRBs) include all forms of benefits provided to former employees after their retirement, other than pensions (Wahlen, 2018). There are (3) common basic insurances offered by employer, health care, life insurance, and disability insurance. The discussion I chose to focus on in accounting was for healthcare benefits because they are the largest dollar amount within the United States. The table below discusses the similarities and differences of Health Insurance and Pension. Postretiremen t benefit Similarities Differences Health Insurance Pensions and OPRBs (health insurance) are both benefit that will help employers attract and retain a quality workforce. Pensions and OPRBs (health insurance) are a large portion of two standards are similar in concept and mechanics. Pensions and OPRBs (health insurance) are both postretirement benefits. Pension plans are generally funded, but healthcare benefit plans are not.
