Legal Studies 140 Study Questions for the Final Exam Your final will consist of two essay questions and three identification answers questions. The essay questions will come from the following four questions. The short answer questions will require you to identify three concepts from a list of five. The short answers are not intended to be obscure; they will be taken from the articles in the anthology or the reader. They will be major concepts that we have discussed repeatedly during the semester. Essay Questions: 1. According to republican theory, citizens have the right to act politically to provide for the public good. When individual citizens cannot or will not take care of themselves and this failure leads to social disruption, the citizenry has the right and duty to protect these individuals from their own impulses and end the social disruption. In accordance with this long-held view of the government’s right to protect the health and safety of citizens, courts should allow a city to detain and rehabilitate, by force if necessary, hardcore homeless who will not voluntarily avail themselves of public shelters. Analyze this statement about the appropriate public reaction towards propertiless citizens.
