Chapter 2- TWD There were two main examples which stuck out to me in this chapter. The Simpsons example of “Our prices discriminate so we don’t have to” and “The gap between the rich and poor may be growing on a daily basis, but when it comes to fighting difference, we prefer fighting racism to fighting poverty” (76). These two quotes seemed to drive in the most important parts of the whole chapter. The point of this chapter continued to reiterate the fact that we as a society spend more time fighting issues of racism, hate crimes, homophobia, etc than we do poverty. This is interesting since poverty is something that is across all types of intersectional identities

Poverty is something which effects the largest group of people but due to the priorities in society, we chose to tackle issues which we deem as much more important. Since poverty is a byproduct of capitalism it raises the question if we will ever be able to get rid of it. The only time when poverty became a prevent issue in our country was during the 99% movement. This social movement however was very short term and did not have any concrete demands but rather pointed out this large unjust discrepancy....
