In simple terms, discrimination is different or unequal treatment that causes harm. Discrimination is damaging even to those who are not targeted. Regardless of a person’s experiences, it is stressful being associated with a group being discriminated. Discrimination in the workplace occurs in many forms that include discrimination based on age, disability, pregnancy, religion, sex, and race and color. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of discrimination based on race and color. The analysis begins with a discussion of the relevant laws and consequences of violation, identifies court cases involving race and color discrimination, discusses ways to prevent or reduce this form of discrimination, and establishes whether laws covering race and color discrimination are still applicable, or whether there is a need for modification. Race and color discrimination, implications and consequences of a violation Race discrimination occurs when a person is denied promotion and training, demoted, offered less pay, and not hired because of his or her race. Many states have agencies that deal with issues relating to racial discrimination. Color describes the pigmentation, complexion, or skin shade. An individual can be discriminated against because of his or her lightness, darkness, or other color characteristics.
