Udemadu 1 Obieze Udemadu Charity Uzoewulu American Literature 03 December 2018 Moderns Choice Assignment Modernist Poetry Ezra Pound 1.) First Stanza- It shows him and his wife when they were children, Second Stanza- They got married young and got placed in the adult world, Third Stanza- She grew to love him again, Fourth Stanza- The husband take a job as a river merchant 2.) The wife began to just suck it up and started to respect her husband. In line 14 she’s saying why should she wait for him to return when he has been gone for so long. 3.) When the letter says he dragged his feet when he lef 4.) The wife sees everything changing and it hurts her because she is aging. 5.) The river merchant probably lef to make more money. I think he will return eventually, maybe afer he reads his wife’s letter. The Garden 1.) “Like a skein of loose silk blown against a wall” 2.) The woman is emotionally drained because of society. It is slowly breaking her down 3.) The woman is very wealthy and right near her it’s poor children 4.) That even though they are of a lower social class than the woman they aren’t emotionally drained like she is and for that they inherit the earth. 5.) Breeding in line 8 means how she was raised or how she will raise her children. 6.) That she wants someone to speak to her and she’s afraid that narrator will come down and break the rules of their society 7.) Society and how people want to stick to the status quo but it’s very boring sometimes. T.S Eliot 1.) He doesn’t have any self confidence 2.) His self esteem is paralysed like the patient on the table 3.) He wants someone to travel with him 4.) Women talk about Michelangelo and how they’re going to remember the man 5.) The fog is being compared to a cat. 6.) He is self-conscious about the way he looks. 7.) That life is full of hesitation. 8.) “Talking of Michelangelo”. He is very unsure about how he feels about women 9.) Prufrock is used to a richer setting where everything is nice. 10.) He feels lonely and exposed 11.) He wants to have some type of purpose in his life and express his fear 12.) He doesn’t think that he can express himself so that other people can understand him
