The Senators and Representatives will not be paid by the states they represent, as the articles of confederation stated. Instead, they are paid out of the Treasury of the United States. Section six of article one also mentions that Senators and Representatives can not be questioned by the President on anything they say in a speech or debate on the floor of the Senate or the House. This rule is made to ensure that Senators and Representatives can speak their mind and debate freely, without having to worry that something they say will be used against them. Senators and Representatives are not allowed to be appointed to offices where that positions salary has been increased during their time in Congress.

Unformatted text preview: This rule is meant to stop Members of Congress from increasing the salary of an office and then asking the President to appoint them to that office so they can make more money. ● The final and most important part of Article 1 Section Six prevents the President from appointing Senators or Congressmen to other branches of the government. This clause was made so that a person could not hold power in either the legislative or the executive and judicial branches, and it reinforces the separation between the three.
