Slide 1: Hi everyone, I am Michelle, and today I will talking about this word “iridescence”. The dictionary meaning of this word is “showing luminous colours that seem to change when seen from different angles”. When I read this, the first thing that came to my mind was bubbles. No? You don’t think so? Really? Ouch. Slide 2: I don’t know about you, but when I first chanced upon this word, I thought “Just another word from English? Maybe from French?” Turns out, I was very far from correct. Iridescent is a word that came from the Latin words, iris , irid ‘rainbow’ and -escent., which is something like a suffix. Just a really really long one. Iridescence is also known as goniochromism, which literally means “angle- colour”. It is also known to be the natural colouring of transparent objects, like this chair over here. There weren’t many real definitions on how to achieve natural iridescence, but I personally feel it is a different way of seeing things from a different perspective. Slide 3: 遠近法 (eng-kee-hor), Japanese for perspective, is one of my favourite Japanese words. 70 percent of my good friends take Japanese and all they do in school is curse at me using Japanese, so I
