Tyler Starbuck 11/2/19 English 101 Position Paper First Draft Title Standardized tests like the SAT and ACT do not prove how smart someone actually is or how well someone will do in college. There are many different factors that should be much more important for college acceptance. Standardized tests should be eliminated from the college admission process because it is an unreliable source of student performance, it discriminates against minorities, and it measures only a small portion of what makes education meaningful. A study from the National Association for College Admission Counseling proved that “ test-optional policies ― a variety of policies that allow students not to submit scores on standardized tests like the SAT or GRE during the admissions process ― can help colleges improve their diversity without sacrificing academic quality.” This is just one example of standardized tests discriminating against minorities. Standardized tests are an unreliable source of student performance. A study by the National Association for College Admission Counseling , according to Hernandez (2018) found that “high school grade point average (GPA) was a better predictor of success in college GPA than test scores for non-submitters.” This report shows that
