Pankaj Ghemawat and Steven Altman argue that the world is not as globalized as some analysts claim and, in fact, “international flows are still strongly constrained by distance, cultural, political, and economic differences between countries.” 1 To the contrary, they argue that “It’s usually national or local concentration that matters.” 2 In this paper, I will discuss Ghemawat and Altman’s argument in consideration with other authors like, Keohane and Nye, Caldwell, and Blinder’s articles on globalization. The first part of the paper discusses localization. The second part is on contribution of localization on limited globalization then finally concludes with future prospects with globalization. Localization Certainly as the internet is introduced and technology use grows, it seems like people are localized rather than globalized. The Internet has made communication quick and exchange of information even in great volume more efficient. Altman and Ghemawat assert that distance is still present when it comes to trade relationships. 15% of American imports come from Canada, Britain, Mexico and China; three out of four trading partners are countries that are geographically close and have common language, history, and culture 3 . But it is a sign of shrinking distance and globalization to see China in this list, which is located in another continent and without close historical and cultural ties to the U.S . Additionally, our Facebook 1 Pankaj Ghemawat and Steven A. Altman, “Is American Enriching the World at Its Own Expense? That’s Globaloney.: The World Is Far Less Globalized than People Tend to Think.” The Washington Post , February 3, 2017, 1; ? utm_term=.9518a0f44d7d (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. , accessed on February 25, 2018. 2 Ghemawat and Altman 3 Ghemawat and Altman

friends are our local friends rather than strangers in another country 4 . Precisely, the internet has brought localization. While it is true that when making calls we facetime our friends and family more than a stranger, the internet with local frequent communication has increased our awareness about issues that are local as well as global. A person who lives in U.S does not need to know every person in the world. Social media makes a huge part of everyone’s daily routine regardless of their physical location. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
