TRAUMA AND ETHICS As Williams and Swartz (1998) state, “When conflicts between conflicting roles of case managers arise, guiding principles to direct treatment decisions include a desire to help others, do no harm, and respect clients with dignity.” These ethical principles are what guide our decisions and help guide us to consider what is best for our clients’ and their well-being, even if it’s not what we want.

AUTONOMY Autonomy: A client retains the right to choose for themselves how to proceed with their care, whether the consequences are positive or negative. There are some laws in place to prevent direct harm, but otherwise it remains the client’s right to choose. Example: A client no longer wishes to take part in group support meetings, even though they have shown improvement since first attending them.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
