OEDIPUS REX 2 OEDIPUS REX Oedipus displays his heroism many times throughout the Oedipus Rex as it’s clearly outlaid by his actions and decisions throughout the play. In as much as some of his decisions brings his ultimate fall, they also help in building his heroic image and character. To begin with, his heroism is seen when he courageously seeks for the truth, while in the real sense it was only logic that it would have brought more suffering than good, as otherwise his parents Polybus and Merope and the oracle, would have courageously told him the truth. Also, his courage is seen when he respects the rule of the Oracle after he persistently seeks for the truth and is found guilty. Despite the fact that he acted in ignorance while killing his biological father and marrying his mother, Oedipus respects the rule of the oracle that dictates that he was to be sent to exile and leaves. Besides, he is very honest and persistent, as it’s outlaid in much of the truth. In spite of Teiresias and Jocasta begging him to stop seeking the truth as they had already figured it out, he continues to ensure that he gets to the bottom of the same and keep his word, this is irrespective of the fact that some of the truth would incriminate him. ( Wilson, 2004). Additionally, his heroism is seen while he is leading his people as he is a good king, who have the interests of his people and heart and also have a good relationship with them.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
