QUALITY CONTROL 2 Currently no one is check the quality of work being performed in the Geographical Information Services (GIS) mapping system. It is imperative for CenterPoint Energy to know the accuracy of the work being digitized of the GIS department to avoid any fines that may be encountered if an explosion were happen. A Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team should be developed to inspect the quality of work being performed by the contractors in GIS department. GIS has to be in accordance with the regulations enforced by the government for the safety of the public. This proposal will cover how the QA/QC team will gather the data to be inspected, the standard that the data will be inspected, and the delivery of the inspections back to the GIS department to insure a better quality of work to be performed in the future. First, this proposal will explain what GIS is and the scope of work that the GIS department is responsible for. Then, introduce what the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard is and how it will be applied to inspection. Next, how the QA/QC team will perform these inspections and how the results of the inspections will benefit the GIS department. Also how the QA/QC team will insure that CenterPoint Energy has accurate data captured in GIS. Finally, the cost involved in adding the QA/QC team. The goal of QA/QC team is to ensure consistency in the way information is recorded and identify opportunities to help the GIS learn and grow “California regulators hit PG&E with a $25.6 million fine for many recordkeeping violations that resulted in the San Bruno natural gas explosion that killed eight people in 2010” ( Utility fined $25.6 million for recordkeeping violations, 2016).
