INTRODUCTION The experiment's goal is to determine some of the chemical properties of water and to show the impurities a certain sample of water contains. Different solutions and reagents are used to determine the present impurities and through hydrate formation, some of the chemical properties of water are demonstrated.

METHODOLOGY CHEMICAL PROPERTIES OF WATER HYDRATE FORMATION Examine CuSO 4 ·5H 2 O characteristic s & color Heat hydrate in a test tube Note the color of residue Cool residue in a test tube Add 2ml of H 2 O to the sol’n Note the color produced

METHODOLOGY IMPURITIES IN WATER SOIL AND ITS REMOVAL Warm 30ml of H 2 O & dirt/soil Filter coarse material Note the turbidn ess of the filtrate Prepar e Al sol’n Dissolve 2g of Al(SO 4 ) 3 in 30ml of H 2 O Add portion of sol’n to turbid H 2 O Make mixture alkaline with NH 4 OH Add more Al & NH 4 OH to precipitate Allow mixture to stand for 10 mins Filter Describe the filtrate
