Exam 2 Concept Guide 1. MI-what is it, signs/symptoms, interventions, treatment and education on med administration Expect to see elevated T waves and dysrhythmias o Elevated T wave can mean a heart attack The pain from an MI often is accompanied by shortness of breath and fear or anxiety. It last longer than 15 min and is not relieved by nitro. It occurs without a known cause such as exertion The major manifestation of MI in people older than 80 years may be disorientation or acute confusion because of poor cardiac output and inadequate coronary prefusion Myocardial infraction occurs when myocardial tissue is abruptly and severely deprived of oxygen When blood flow is quickly reduced from 90% to 80% ischemia develops The most common lab test for MI is a Trop S/S o Pain or discomfort Substernal chest pain/ pressure radiating to the left arm Pain or discomfort in the jaw, back, shoulder, or abdomen Occurs without cause, usually in the morning Relieved only by opioids Lasting 30 min or more o Frequent associated symptoms Nausea/ vomiting Diaphoresis- sweating Dyspnea- difficult or labored breathing Feelings of fear and anxity Dysrhythmias Fatigue Palpitations Epigastric distress- pain or discomfort right below the ribs in upper abd Dizziness Disorientation/ actue confusion Feeling SOB - Hemodynamic monitoring measures the blood pressure inside the veins, heart, and arteries o It also measures blood flow and how much oxygen is in the blood o
