Portfolio 3.Siekman.pdf - The most interesting chapter from...

This preview shows page 1 - 2 out of 2 pages.

The most interesting chapter from the past three chapters was definitely chapter nine because of the interesting theories it talked about. The major theories mentioned were Attraction Theory, Relationship Rules Theory, Relationship Dialects Theory, Social Penetration Theory, Social Exchange Theory, Equity Theory, and Politeness Theory. Attraction Theory claims that people form relationships with those they consider attractive. I have found this to be very true since I was a child. I remember in 5th grade thinking about picking my friends based on the way they looked. There was this boy that I wanted to be friends with because he had nice shoes, hair, and dressed well. I wasn’t attracted to a boy and I don’t like boys like that, but I wanted to be friends with him because he was “cool.” I didn’t want to be friends with a boy who had nasty greasy hair and didn’t keep up with the latest trends. This still holds to be true today. The friends I pick are based strongly on appearance and obviously the girls I pick are too. I base things much more on personality now than when I was a child, but looks still matter greatly. There are multiple principles within this theory. For example similarity means that the person you form a relationship with would look like you. Proximity is when you are attracted to the people around you, and reinforcement is about people who do things for you.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
