WATSON’S THEORY OF HUMAN CARING 2 Watson’s Theory of Human Caring Watson’s theory of human caring was developed by jean Watson to help the nurses in giving holistic care to patients with severe burns. Watson argued that nursing a patient of severe burns is very exhausting, both physically and emotionally. To reinstate the functional ability and avert more complications, intensive cure modalities are required (Cronin, 2001). A physical illness is given more consideration giving less time for patients of other illnesses. Watson’s theory helps the nurses go back to professional roots and ethics. “Caring endorses our professional identity within a context in which humanistic values are constantly examined and provides avenues to respond to profound human dimensions of illness and health (Watson, 2007).” According to peck 2011, a high mortality has been recorded. The severely burned patients also suffer from stress, making it difficult to respond to the traditional burn management strategies. Thus, the doctrines of palliative care are recorded to be very important for patients with severe burns (Mosenthal and Murphy, 2003). This theory was developed to assess how its applicability meets the needs of burns of patient. According to the world health organization (2002), palliative care is an approach that ensures quality life of patients facing life threatening illness, together with their families is improved.
