In some instances, especially concerning family, I do feel like I have less control over my decisions, or that my decisions are centered more on pleasing them rather than myself. In cases such as this, I do end up taking away my own autonomy. For example, if I feel I do not want to take part in a particular family activity and voice that feeling, often I am bombarded by them until I inevitably relent. The most recent example of this was last year my family, including my father, stepmother, three siblings and their spouses and children, as well as my adult nephew all wanted to go on an expensive cruise as a family vacation. After looking into it, I did not want to go, as none of the activities interested me and the cost was more than I wanted to spend. Even after making my feelings known and why, everyone just kept coercing me to try, so I relented, not wanting to be a “party pooper.” I had to scrounge for an entire year to afford the trip, and ended up having a miserable time, as there was nothing to do and my siblings were usually spending time with their spouses.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
