MGR SYS 1) Personal experience: What type(s) of performance appraisals and performance management systems have your past (and current) employers used? I have experienced several ways of measuring performance and checking to see if goals are being met. Sales performance vs set goals was the first I experienced when I was working in a call center. Our first goal was retention, but we also had sales metrics that we were expected to hit. These updated daily and we had weekly meetings to review our monthly goals. Self-assessment and manager appraisal were techniques also used in performance reviews. We would go over set goals and see if and or how they were being met. I was given the opportunity to critique myself and then compare it against what a manager had written and observed. Most times they came out close to the same but every now and then the manager and I had varying insights and had to work through

When I was looking up what managers currently use as well as asking around work, I found that a lot of managers like to use the self-appraisal system and get an employee’s feedback on how they feel they did. Then the manager will apply the management by objective system where both the employee and manager sit down together and go over goals, statistics and various other KPI factors. When an employee and manager work together in this relatively new system it is thought that the employee will be more engaged and receptive to the plans being laid out....
