Welsh 1 James E. Welsh III Professor Bobby Rollins PTR251: Certified Fitness Trainer Week 10: Peter Parker Case study Peter Parker Case Study Phase 1: Intake / Drawing in / Assessment /Nutrition Intake During the “Drawing in” phase it is very important to establish yourself as a professional. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen personal trainers trying to train clients in a pair of sandals or flip flops. Their clothes are very often cut off shirts and sometimes even have inappropriate sayings written on them. I understand the importance of individuals establishing their own style but as a personal trainer you should appear professional. If you are not meeting in a gym or working out with your client it is important for an ISSA trainer to take pride in their appearance. When scheduling a setting to meet for our intake, I will ensure the time and place meet his needs and will work around his schedule to ensure he is comfortable. The Initial intake can be very invasive as I will be asking him how he currently eats, how much alcohol he consumes, and if he is a smoker. These questions can make people very uncomfortable so I will ensure he understands I reserve no judgement of him and don’t expect him to be perfect. I will convey respect that he is here trying to better himself and that I am proud of him for taking this huge first step. Once I have introduced myself, I will establish myself as a professional by developing a rapport with Mr. Parker. I will attempt to create an atmosphere of trust and build a relationship that will create a bond between us by attempting to find common interests. By speaking intelligently and professionally I will establish myself as an expert in my field while not trying to sound over confident. I will build confidence with my own personal fitness level and appearance. I will not leave any room for doubt while also demonstrating sincerity and I will build a relationship with Mr. Parker by showing enthusiasm and building our rapport with integrity and sound work ethics. Data collection is the next step and will require constant updates during our time working together as accurate and current information is paramount to ensure my clients safety and health status. Continually monitoring his progression and health will better assist him to reach his goals.

Welsh 2 Once I have had Mr. Parker fill out the forms required by the gym, as well as forms I require as his personal trainer (located in the ISSA Fiscal Fitness book), I will give him a guided tour around the gym. Since Mr. Parker hasn’t committed himself to an exercise regimen in a very long time, I will be very thorough with this walk through and ensure he knows all of the amenities available to him.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
