Which environment factor(s) did Hurricane Rita affect? Discuss. Hurricane Rita affected the environment in many ways. Once large oak trees that filled the city were now blown over onto roads, houses and businesses. The trees had to be cleaned up, this required big trucks, blocked roads, chainsaws, etc. This created a lot of noise pollution which affected everything from business that were open to people in their houses. There was also a large influx of people into the community because of all the repair workers. These were however not the workers that the local businesses so desperately needed. People also had to wait for their electricity to be restored to their houses and businesses. With no power people could not work and the economy was brought to a standstill from a local standpoint outside of the repair work. How were the HR functions affected by Hurricane Rita? Unformatted text preview: became vital to try and place the right employee in the right job. This was very difficult because of the lack of employees and the premiums that employees now commanded. Training and development also suffered after the hurricane, manager was working long hours and OT hours to try and train a new staff. This leads to an even more bloated payroll compared to before hurricane Rita. Do you believe that the HR situation described regarding Hurricane Rita would be typical in a disaster? Explain. Unfortunately, I believe that it would be the same. After big disasters and HR department or professional would be faced with a lack of people, a lack of infrastructure for people to get to work, employees pay being higher because lack of people to work. HR depts would also be tasked with a new inflated payroll and less customers (at first) to help offset the increased expenses. It would be a balancing act for all parties involved....
