BIG DATA JOURNALISM 2 1. Abstract Big data strategies are widely and extensively being developed by Media and News companies in their pursuit of making better use of the widely growing amount of content that is already available from mobile communications and the internet at large. However, despite the overwhelming amount of content available in the internet, most of the news and media organizations particularly in China and the UK have struggled to establish unique techniques and strategies that have enabled them augment their editorial and business models. This paper has explored the challenges of big data and the future opportunism available for the same. Digital journalism is a popular profession in our society, a trade without which people would live in darkness. Over last decade, the media has advanced in innumerable ways, which have caused significant changes in methods journalist report news. According to Franklin (2014), the media advancements have seen traditional journalists doing their best to a more advanced role using social media platforms as a means of promoting and delivering their work. Scholars have led some studies on how the advancement of digital media has affected the journalism profession from different perspectives within the journalism industry. However, there has been little effort to conduct detailed research into journalism in the digital era and its impacts on journalist and other digital media users. This dissertation investigates the effects of digital media on modern journalism in addition to the changes have affected journalistic performance and practices. Interviews with journalists and the public will also show how the people feel about the advanced audience interaction and the introduction of citizen journalism. The research also highlights journalists view on whether digital media has altered writing or advanced it.
