2 Unit 5: DDB Case Analysis African Americans stand out the highest. I would think that their need to express their identity (Need for Expression) to others and their Need for Ego Defense to defend their own identity are important motives. Females have a higher need to look different than males, as well as singles and people who have separated from their significant others (Need for Autonomy). When digging down a little deeper we start to see that people making under $20,000 to $30,000 in household income, who have some college, and are sales and laborers. The 18-24 age range are the ones who are most likely trying to stand out and want to portray a youthful ideal self-concept, and want to look adventurous. The factors that look to have contributed most in my research where the African American ethnic sub-cultures (especially females), separated individuals, people who lack higher education, and those who had a youthful ideal self-concept.
