[Type text] Research has linked adolescent romantic and sexual activities to depressive symptoms. In this article, it covers different psychological symptoms such as depression, anxiety and externalizing symptoms as well as the consequences of early adolescent dating and sexual conduct. The article expresses that, early romantic relationships, might expose adolescents to stressors without teaching them the proper coping mechanisms. In some cases, this increases the chances of early romantic activity ending in a negative effect which can include comorbidity of anxiety and depression in adolescent teens over time. Depression almost always occurs with anxiety. According to Davilia and Beck 2005, teens who suffer from anxiety are more likely to avoid romantic relationships which can later lead to anxiety in adulthood surrounding relationships. On the other hand, anxiety can lead an anxious teen to participate in a sexual relationship just to ensure that they won’t look unpopular to their fellow classmates.

Unformatted text preview: Adolescent teens that have low self esteem, poor family guidance and non stimulating social environment are more likely to act out in a rebellious and disobedient manner which can ultimately lead to other externalizing behaviors such as substance abuse, impulsive behaviors and sexual activities. According to (Armour and Haynie, 2007), it is said that young adolescent teen will participate in sexual activities to gain acceptance within their deviant peer groups. Also adolescents engage in these impulsive behaviors that are the root of adolescent eternalizing disorders that may lead adolescents to participate in sexual activity considering the possible emotional consequences.
