A Conversation with Texas State Trooper, John Prosperie By J’lynn Richardson The Texas Highway Patrol, better known as Texas State Troopers, is the largest state-law enforcement in Texas. Founded in 1899, Highway Patrol Division Troopers enforce traffic laws, apprehend wanted persons, assist during emergencies, and more. Always on call and often away from home, Troopers sacrifice some of the most vital aspects of their lives to serve and protect the citizens of Texas. I interviewed John Prosperie to get a better understanding of what it is like to be a trooper. Q. Did you have a career before your current one? A. I was enlisted in the U.S Navy for 8 years, from 2004 to 2012, and was discharged after my third tour in Iraq. Q. Why did you decide to become a State Trooper? A. I was initially interested in working in volunteer fire fighting and the police department. While I was working with them, they told me to try the State first and so I did. I was accepted on my first try, which is very rare.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
