She is married as a second wife to the Prabhati which was the idea of her father. The story focuses on how women are exploited in rural India by men. Therefore, this paper analyses the story the Weed to determine its main theme and the stylistic devices that were employed by the author to better bring out the culture of rural India as it pertains to men and women in the society. The story is from an unnamed narrator which seem to be an educated city-bred female. From the story, the main theme is women vulnerability who fall prey to the men which in this case is symbolized by a metaphorical weed and the manner in which men exploit women and discard them at their pleasure.
