Discussion Questions Chapter 11 APUSH 1.Describe the election of 1800.Jefferson won the election of 1800 During this election Jefferson ended up winning. He was known as the “negro president” because the compromise was the main reason he won. Jefferson tied with Burr during the electoral votes so the election were to the house where they chose Jefferson. Historians refer to this at the Revolution of 1800. 2.How did Jefferson behave as president, and how did he deal with his predecessors’ federalist programs? He was very simple and rather cautious. He undid the damage of the anti-French hysteria. He pardoned the “martyrs”, the naturalization law of 1802, repealed the excises tax, and hired. Albert Gallatin as head of treasury and reduced debt. 3.What were the circumstances that gave birth to the principle of judicial review? The Judiciary Act of 1801 was the last important law that the Federalists passed. This act aroused a bitter resentment. The new congress ended up repealing the act. John Marshall guided the legal system more than anyone else, while William Marbury was one of the “midnight judges” 4.How was the United States able to acquire the Louisiana territory and why did Jefferson struggle with the purchase?
