Rachel Mason A YECAMUS250EC13 Contained interesting information Prof. Brian Jackson Research Paper Draft: The Prince of Soul Who is Marvin Gaye? If you've heard of songs like Ain't No Mountain High Enough or Lets Get It On, you know Marvin Gaye. Born on the second of April in 1939, Marvin Pentz Gay Jr. was born in Washington D.C. to Reverend Marvin Gay Sr. and Alberta Gay. His father was led a small church. Marvins mother was a stay at home mom who raised him and his four siblings. Gaye Jr. didn't have much singing experience, limited to only singing and playing the drums or piano for his church choir. Against his father's stern hand and his ghetto neighborhood, Gaye decided to quit school and join the Air Force in 1955. Inspired by artists such as Rudy West, Ray Charles and Little Willie John, Marvin developed a love for R&B and doo-wop. In 1957, Marvin Gaye created a group called the Marquees. Singing doo-wop songs like Wyatt Earp and Hey Little Schoolgirl, Marvin is introduced and added to the (New) Moonglows in 1959. Under the direction of Harvey Fuqua, Marvin Gaye meets Berry Gordy Jr., the founder of Motown Records. Becoming a drummer for Motown artists like the Miracles and Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye began recording his first solo album, The Soulful Moods of Marvin Gaye.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
