1 Sullivan Larry Sullivan Professor Gottshall Media and Society 21 October 2019 Latino Beyond Reel The main theme of the film: Latino Beyond Reel , is how badly American media has portrayed Hispanic people and their culture. The film starts with a panel of Hispanic children that all vary in age. The interviewer starts by asking them the question,” Can you name any Hispanic cartoon characters?” Only one child was able to answer the question and his answer was Speedy Gonzales from the Looney Tunes . If the viewer has never seen Speedy Gonzales, they won’t realize how disturbing that answer is. Gonzales is a cartoon mouse, who is portrayed as the Hispanic stereotype; he’s depicted as freeloader who stays with Bugs Bunny and steals his food from time to time. The reason this is disturbing is because the only Hispanic character the children can see on their television is a freeloading, thieving mouse.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
