Module Four Lesson Two Notes Outline Student Name: Tyler Poole Introduction 5 pts Write a brief (2-3 sentences) response to the video and/or website about CODIS. Do you think CODIS should store the DNA from all people? Just those convicted? All who are accused of any crime? All who are accused of violent crime? I believe that CODIS should have DNA stored from all people because I think if we already have everyone’s DNA in a system then it would be a lot easier to solve crime and it would decrease investigation time and would give us a definite answer as to who committed the crime. But if we aren’t able to store all that data, then it should definitely have the DNA of people that are accused of violent crimes. Vocabulary 15 pts Using the directions in the course, create your vocabulary review below for the following terms: CODIS- combined DNA index system; FBI program of support for criminal justice DNA databases as well as the software used to run the databases Digital Evidence- information stored or transmitted in binary form Computer Forensic Science- the science of acquiring, preserving, retrieving, and presenting data that has been processed electronically and stored on computer media Search lead list- set of questions developed by a computer forensic examiner based on the request of the investigator and used to guide extraction, identification and analysis of digital evidence Flash Memory- where a device in binary code a history of actions to read or write information. Accessing flash memory allows access to deleted content that has not been overwritten Network Packet- a unit of data routed between an origin and destination on the Internet or other network Traceroute- software within the computer that tracks and shows the Internet route network packets take between the source computer and the destination device IP Address- (internet protocol address) a unique string of numbers that identifies each computer using the internet to communicate over a network Domain- a name that represents a group of IP addresses NCIC- a computerized index of criminal justice information.
