Catherine Obermeier Chapter 2: Processes and Strategies for Inquiring Processes of Science Observing Process of gathering information using all appropriate senses and instruments that extend the senses. Some components of good scientific observing are: Senses: use all appropriate senses as well as instruments that extend the senses in gathering extensive and clear information. Measurements: Make quantitative observations to supplement qualitative observations when it matters. Questions: Ask questions about the objects that can lead to new investigations and observations. Changes: make deliberate alterations in the objects that can help answer new questions and observe the responding changes. Communication: Report your observations clearly, using verbal descriptions, charts, diagrams, drawings, and other methods as appropriate. Classifying Group objects or organisms according to one or more common properties. This requires that we observe properties and then look for similarities amongst those properties. There are two common ways of classifying that are introduced at the elementary level. Binary classification system: A set of object is divided into two groups on the basis of whether each object has a particular property. Ex: Buttons may be classified into two groups, buttons with four holes and all buttons that do not have four holes.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
