Integumentary System Burns Even small burns can affect the functions of the integumentary system First degree: only killing cells within the epidermis Second degree: continues into dermis, kiss fibroblasts of dermis and keratinocytes of epidermis o Allows opportunity for infection Third Degree: completely through dermis into hypodermis Fourth degree: extremities are lost Can be life threatening due to water loss Injury to circulatory system will cause clotting in tissue of burn as well as deeper in the tissue, this is called disseminated intravascular coagulation Vitamin D Children can develop rickets due to lack of vitamin D o Bones bend instead of staying straight In adults a similar condition is called osteomelacia o Bone weakening Skeletal System Skull and rib cages are defensive structures
