Moral and Ethical Development and Issues in Children’s Literature A Tool of Moral and Ethical Development Ethical education must be an essential focus in student curriculum. The classroom is a great place to give young people the tools best suited to live in our face paced society. According to Kiefer and Tyson (2014), By way of contrast to the daily news, a well-written story provides perspective on the pain and suffering of humankind. In a literary story the author has time to develop the characters into fully rounded human beings. (). It is from children’s literature that a child’s understanding of the tragedy of life becomes real. It is difficult to cope with the challenges of life, having a better grasp of what is means to be human and how to deal with “life”, is what children’s literature attempts to accomplish. Socialization (prejudice and tolerance) We live is a society that has had and still has challenges with diversity. We are a diverse nation. However, many people struggle with acceptance. According to Kiefer and Tyson (2014), Children’s books have made great gains in the depiction of our changing society.
