Emerging Adult Critical Thinking 1 Sonoma Johnson-Mougenot NURS 2100 Case Study Tommy is a junior in high school and plays on the Varsity lacrosse team. He has been playing lacrosse for about eight years for about four days a week. He’s now 17 and has always hated stretching and feels like it is a waste of time that he could be spending getting better at the sport. He will go for a quick jog around the field to warm up and then will go strait into practice, a game, or a workout. Tommy has had very few injuries throughout his lifetime and, before a few years ago, had especially never had any sports related issues. For some reason, he has had a scary about of injuries playing on the varsity team and all of these injuries seem to include muscle strains, a sprang, or tears of some sort. For years, he has dreamed about playing on a college team. He has been playing for as long as he can remember and it has become a huge part of his life and who he is. However, he is now very concerned that he just isn’t cut out for playing with the big boys since he can’t stop getting injured. In reality, Tommy has nothing to worry about. His injuries have nothing to do with playing on varsity and the intensity of the higher level team. The solution to his problem is actually quite very simple, he just needs to understand how important stretching is, especially at his age. During this time in a teenager’s life, they will experience many growth spurts that happen very quickly.
