Response Paper 2The Plague, by Albert Camus, had many themes and many characters throughout, however the biggest theme in this piece is definitely religion. The character who pushes the importance of religion and the one who is spreading His name goes by the name of Father Paneloux. Father Paneloux is a very strong speaker, according to Rieux, and he gave two clear and very eye opening sermons throughout this book that he believed would get the attention of the hope-seeking people of Oran. Although Father Paneloux is the one giving these sermons, he too feels the mental, physical, and spiritual abuse that this disease has on the people in his community.Father Paneloux’s two sermons are both similar in the fact that God needs to be present inthe lives of the people in Oran, but the two sermons also contrast in many ways.
