APOL 500 Module 4_Pluralism and Other Challenges One of our featured topics in this module of the course is pluralism. It's important at the outset for you to understand that the word pluralism can mean many different things in many different contexts. And not all of them would be usages that we would be upset with or disagree with. For example, some people say that the United States is a pluralistic society. So when the word pluralism is used in that sense, it simply means that there are people from a wide variety of contexts, a wide variety of religious believe systems that live together peacefully in a single society. And when pluralism is used in that sense, we should of course be happy to agree with that and commend and its usage in that sense. Other times however, people used the word pluralism differently. Sometimes when it's referred -- when it's used to refer to religions, like religious pluralism, people mean something along the lines of all religions are equally valid, or all religions contain elements of truth, or

Unformatted text preview: all religions are just different paths that lead to the same God. Of course in those in that sense of the word pluralism, we would disagree with that. So in this module, you'll be equipped to deal with challenges that arise from using pluralism in that sense of the word. Also in this module, you’ll be introduced to Islam. You'll be able to learn the distinctions between Christianity and Islam. And hopefully you come away equipped, better able to deal with the challenges that arise from Islam as we face it in our culture. And as you engage in apologetics. We live in what many people describe as a small world. People from a wide variety of contexts, religious belief systems, backgrounds, cultural backgrounds, and ethnic backgrounds, live together in close proximity with one another in a close-knit society. My prayer for you is that this module will help equip you to engage in apologetics in that kind of world....
