Which attitudes, beliefs, and values from your own faith, heritage, and cultural learning support behaviors that demonstrate respect and value of differences? Which attitudes, beliefs, and values from your own heritage and cultural learning impede or hinder respect and value of differences? How will this affect your interactions with students and families? My beliefs are pretty simple. I believe in being respectful and caring to all people. That's the way I was raised in my home. My mother taught me to respect everyone and to be caring until proven otherwise. In life you will experience different types of situations and people. I was taught to always give everyone respect until you have experienced a reason not to. That doesn't mean not to be aware of things and the negative they can bring. It just means everyone deserves a chance to be respected and cared for. Personally I do not think I have any issues interacting with families and students. Working in a school over the last 4 years, I have learned that it is not my place to judge, comment or try to influence how a family operates. I have found it best to try and find a common ground between the families and students to achieve what should be a common goal, child development and education. As a teacher if you respect a family and how they function you should be able to focus on helping that kid being successful in the classroom. Also coming to terms with the fact that you can’t control someone else's actions has helped me tremendously. Class, Our beliefs are formed by our culture which is developed with our closest family and changes over time when we learn more about the world. I have always been open minded, my life changed when I met my best friend in high school, who was Muslim. I questioned my faith after meeting his father. I wondered how this man, the most humble and kind man that I have ever met in my life, would go to hell, according to my Christian beliefs, because he did not believe in Jesus Christ. What major events or people in your life have changed your faith, heritage, and cultural? Has it changed much overtime or are you still fairly the same since you were a child? Sean What has changed me? I would say my college experience right out of high school. When I went to college I didn’t know anyone and to be 100% honest I had a culture shock. I was in a small town around a different type of community. This was not a negative experience by any means, it was just “different”. The pace of the town, what people did for entertainment etc. I learned how to make the best of all situations and how to embrace people for who they are. While doing that I made some life long friends. I met people who I consider family because I was out of my comfort zone and forced to live and survive in an environment that I may not have ever experienced without college.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
