Cultural background is an important way to define an
individual’s identity (Reference, 2019). Understanding of a patient’s family history and cultural
background can help identify the unique needs of an individual patient. Also, a provider should
be cultural aware of their personal attitudes, beliefs, biases, and behaviors that may influence the
type of care they are able to give (Research, 2011). As a future PMHNP, it is critical to establish
