RUNNING HEAD: Ethical Concerns 2 Scenario 1: The parents of a 5-year-old boy have accompanied their son for his required physical examination before starting kindergarten. His parents are opposed to him receiving any vaccines. State and local vaccination requirements for child daycare and school entry are implemented to maintain high vaccination coverage rates and decrease vaccine-preventable diseases. Many parents are refusing vaccinations for their children due to religious beliefs, personal beliefs, safety concerns, or lack of vaccine education. According to ProCon.org (2019), no US federal vaccination laws are existing, but all 50 states have laws requiring children attending public schools to be vaccinated against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis; polio; measles and rubella; and varicella. It is based upon the individual's state residency to determine whether medical, religious, or personal exemptions are allowed. Some states are requiring a
