M3D1-Gendered Ethics If we look at the traits of people in this world, generally speaking, it seems as though some traits are valued over others depending on the individual’s gender. To be caring in our society is a highly valued female trait. You wouldn’t normally hear someone say “wow, he is so caring,” instead, they might say “wow he is so brave.” With a predisposition to believe that traits are gendered, can anyone who believes this have an unbiased and true conversation in ethics? I don’t believe so. After reading about Twilight in the module notes, I believe that Psychologist Mary Pipher hit the nail on the head when discussing Bella Swan’s character, she states, “while women are receiving messages of equality and opportunity, they are still butting up against the “junk values” of our media-driven culture, which praises a narrow version of female beauty,” (Irwin & Johnson, 2010). The part that drove it home for me was when discussing junk values of our media-driven culture. The media has transformed into this beast that is mostly concerned with money and
