Thompson 1 Alissa R. Thompson Mrs. LeMaster Behavior in America 23 February 2010 Animal Testing Animal testing has been a controversial topic for many years. Animals are used for testing all around the world. Some products they are tested on include cosmetics, cleaning chemicals, lotions, shampoos, and other personal care products. Each year, about seventeen to twenty-two million animals are used for testing, excluding mice and rats. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the pros and cons of animal testing and how I feel about this topic. There are multiple advantages of animal testing. The main reason animals are used for testing is safety of the people. People say it would be morally wrong to use humans for testing since people could die in the process. Animal testing has helped us greatly since they have found cures for diseases or products that can help cure a disease. Even though rats and mice are mainly used for testing, dogs and cats are still used too. All of the dogs and cats used for testing are taken out of animal shelters. The animals that they take for testing would have been euthanized
