STUDENTS’ ANXIETY TOWARDS THE LEARNING OF CHEMISTRY IN SOME ETHIOPIAN UNIVERSITIES ABSTRACT A. Chemistry is a human endeavor that relies on basic human qualities. Basic human qualities: -Creativity -Insights -Reasoning -Skills “It depends on the habits of the mind. The study was created to find out if students’ anxiety towards the learning of chemistry, identify the cause of anxiety, to know the disposition of sex towards the study of chemistry and their taste towards learning the subject.” The data gathered were analysed using: -Frequency counts percentage. -Stanine test B. The result of the study shows: The students whether they are male or female, urban or rural based students are experiencing anxiety towards the study of chemistry. It is also said that the cause of the students’ anxiety is the redundancy of the subject,. Low awareness of the career opportunities. The teacher and their methods and the lack of visual aids/laboratories. INTRODUCTION The role of science education in the lives of individuals and in the advancement of science and technology for the development of mankind and the society in general is very crucial. The influence of science on a nation and its citizens could be seen from the production of basic human needs to social, political, educational, technological and economic advancement. Chemistry is a very important subject, it is a core subject for medical science, textile technology, agricultural science, synthetic industry, primary technology, pharmacy, and chemical engineering. In spite of the efforts of both the federal and state governments to encourage chemistry education, students still shun the subjects.
