ELC 590 PREPARATION OUTLINE PERSUASIVE SPEECH Name : Nurul Izzati binti Musa Group : MBA2323B Speech Title : Drinking more water is healthy Organizational Pattern : Monroe’s Motivated Sequence General Purpose : To persuade Specific Purpose : To persuade everyone to drink more water. Central Idea : What happen if you don’t drink enough water and benefits of increasing water intake Introduction I. How much water should you drink a day? II. I’m sure you all have heard a very common quote “you are what you eat!” III. Good morning to our lecture and my friends. The title of my speech today is “Drinking more water is healthy” IV. Water is essential for life because it helps regulate body temperature, maintain blood volume and your body uses water to transport both nutrients and weight. In fact, an adult's body is about 55 to 60 percent water and lack of water intake or increased water loss will result in dehydration. V. Drinking enough water on a daily basis is a healthy habit for all of us to have. VI. Today, I hope that I can persuade each of you to what happens when you are dehydrated, which means you don’t drink enough water and the benefits of increasing water intake in our life. (Let’s move to my first point)

Body I. People who less drink water often occur dehydration. A. In general, dehydration occurs when the amount of water leaving the body is greater than the amount being taken in. i. In severe cases of dehydration there is the possibility of fainting or even death. Even feeling thirsty is a factor of becoming dehydrated says Dr. Brenda Davy of Virginia Tech. ii. Excessive sweating, increased urination, vomiting and fever are some others factor of dehydration. The young and elderly are especially susceptible to dehydration. iii. Some signs of dehydration are dry mouth, lightheadedness, muscle cramps, weakness, nausea and vomiting, and decreased urine output. B. Some risk factor are; i. Infants and children. The most likely group to experience severe diarrhea and vomiting, infants and children are especially vulnerable to dehydration.
