Introduction Organisation Development is aimed creating the Business Structure, Systems and Procedures, Competencies and Cultures that will ensure the business achieves its goals. Organisational development process starts with the identification of issues that can be solved within the organisation. This process progresses through various different stages as well as determines satisfactory progress made for additional involvement. It can also be a series of trial and error as well as a discovery of the best possible practices that can be implemented in the organisation. Organizational Development

Definition “Organizational Development is an intervention strategy that uses group processes to focus on the whole culture of an organization in order to bring about planned change. It seeks to change beliefs, attitudes, values, structure and practices – in fact, the entire culture of the organization so that the organization can better adapt to technology and line with the fast pace of the change.” - Keith Davis Thus organizational development is just like a training to the employees to mould themselves in a planned way so that the necessary changes may be introduced in the organization, without much resistances to whole culture, i.e., beliefs, attitudes, values, structure and practices. Definition Organization development is a long-term effort, led and supported by top management , to improve an organization's visioning , empowerment , learning , and problem-solving processes , through an ongoing, collaborative management of organization culture –with special emphasis on the culture of intact work teams and other team configurations – using the consultant- facilitator role and theory and technology of applied behavioral science, including action research. - Wendell L. It may be more accurate to describe that “improvement” as a never ending journey of continuous change. Led and supported by top management It is imperative on the part of top management to lead and actively encourage the change effort. Non commitment of top management may fail the entire process. Visioning processes Those processes through which organization members develop a viable, coherent, and shared picture of the nature of the products and services the organization offers, the ways those goods will be produced and delivered to customers, and what the organization and its member can expect from each other. Vision means creating a picture of the desired future that includes salient features of the human side of the organization and working together to make that picture a reality.
