To start we will be talking about how Winchester Repeating Arms Company started. Oliver Winchester purchased a bankrupt company called Volcanic Repeating Arms, he then moves the whole production line to New Haven, Connecticut and called the new company New Haven Arms Company, where they continued to produce the Henry Rifles, at that time it was an excellent rifle during the civil war. On May 22, 1866 after the civil war the Company changed its name again and become the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The first gun that Winchester Repeating Arms made was Model 1866, with the help of Benjamin Henry, the designer of the Henry Rifles. this gun is an upgrade version of the Henry Rifles, comparing to the Henry Rifle, Model 1866 allows the user to fire more shots before having to reload. Model 1866 is also known as “Yellow Boy” because of the gun’s receiver’s was a bright yellow color, this special design made this rifle iconic.
